forkliftAs the only association in Washington State that is exclusively focused on all aspects of the petroleum marketing industry,  WOMA constantly monitors legislative and regulatory issues involving fuel, energy, alcohol, tobacco, transportation, the environment, and the state budget and taxes.

In the past year alone, WOMA accomplished the following for its members:

  • Defeated Native American gas tax legislation that would have cost WOMA members millions of dollars.  This proposed legislation was one of the toughest battles WOMA has every fought but the association managed to protect the interests of petroleum marketers and keep their float whole.
  • Continued to negotiate the HVAC/R licensure proposals to prevent undo financial and training hardships on small heating oil businesses.
  • Carried out a Southwest Washington Pipeline Study in 2007 showing the imminent need for increased capacity flowing into the Vancouver, Washington area from Seattle and all points in between.
  • Achieved a tax break for gas station owners who install back up power at their retail sites.
  • Offered a workshop on the Destination-Based Sales Tax change through Washington’s Department of Revenue.
  • Provided a workshop on Estate Planning for all its members through Federated Insurance.
  • Sponsored continuing education for Oil Heat Service Technicians (NORA Certification).
  • Provided public relations services through NORA funding for local heating oil companies with positive stories to share – including radio segments, TV stories, feature news articles, newsletters, and more.
